HYDERABAD: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy launched a scathing attack on former CM K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) in the Assembly, accusing him of governance failures, water mismanagement, and neglecting farmers’ welfare. He also emphasized that the Congress government is committed to constitutional values and governance transparency.
Respect for Constitutional Institutions
Revanth Reddy accused the previous BRS government of disrespecting institutions, pointing out that:
– In 2022 budget sessions, the then-government conducted proceedings without a Governor’s address.
– A woman Governor was insulted under the previous administration.
– In contrast, the Congress government respects democratic institutions and follows constitutional principles.
He criticized BRS leaders for opposing the Governor’s speech despite serving as ministers for ten years, arguing that they lacked knowledge of legislative procedures.
Congress Government’s Farmer Welfare Initiatives
Revanth Reddy outlined his government’s commitment to farmer welfare, contrasting it with BRS policies:
– ₹20,624 crore farm loan waiver successfully implemented.
– First three months in power: ₹7,625 crore credited to farmers under the Rythu Bandhu scheme.
– Rythu Bharosa increased to ₹12,000 to support farmers.
– ₹1,206 crore bonus distributed for fine rice procurement.
– Indiramma Aathmeeya Bharosa: ₹12,000 financial aid for landless poor families.
He criticized the previous government for failing to procure paddy, stating that Congress ensured farmers’ financial security.
Water Disputes and BRS’s Alleged Failures
The CM accused KCR of compromising Telangana’s water rights, particularly on Krishna River allocations:
– BRS government signed away 299 TMC of water to Andhra Pradesh during its tenure.
– KCR remained silent while Pothireddypadu project was expanded under central leadership.
– BRS prioritized contractors over Telangana’s irrigation needs, reducing Jurala’s allocation from 2 TMC to 1 TMC.
– SLBC project delay led to Nalgonda facing severe water shortages.
Revanth Reddy claimed that KCR visited the Assembly only twice in 15 months, failing to answer critical questions about Telangana’s water resources. He challenged BRS leaders to a debate on Krishna water allocations and promised to apologize if proven wrong.
Call for Transparency and Accountability
Revanth Reddy called for a fact-based discussion on Telangana’s irrigation projects, asking whether KCR was willing to participate. He concluded by accusing KCR of betraying Telangana, stating that while ordinary farmers fought legal battles over water, KCR dined with political rivals instead of securing the state’s interests.
