Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday slammed the Union Government for showing indifference to Telangana’s pending infrastructure proposals, demanding clearance for Metro Rail Phase 2, the Musi Rejuvenation project, and the Regional Ring Road (RRR) during Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s upcoming visit to Hyderabad.
Speaking after inaugurating the PJR Flyover at Gachibowli, Revanth Reddy questioned why the Centre sanctioned projects for Sabarmati, Yamuna, and Ganga river rejuvenation, but did not provide funding or approvals for the Musi river project in Hyderabad.
He criticised Union Minister G Kishan Reddy for failing to secure approvals for Telangana’s pending proposals, despite repeated requests, including personal visits. Revanth pointed out that Telangana had slipped to ninth place in Metro development, and warned that the Centre’s silence amounted to discrimination against the state.
He appealed to the public to observe “who is working for Telangana’s development and who is blocking it,” recalling that during the tenure of Dr Manmohan Singh and Union Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy, Hyderabad’s Metro and IT sector flourished.
Revanth Reddy highlighted that Telangana is advancing the Telangana Rising 2047 plan, which will divide the state into Core Urban, Semi Urban, and Rural regions to prepare for growth over the next century. He stressed Hyderabad must compete not with Indian cities but with global metropolises like New York, Tokyo, and Singapore.
The CM noted efforts to tackle Hyderabad’s pollution by shifting diesel buses to districts, introducing 3,000 electric buses, and lifting bans on new autos while encouraging electric and CNG vehicles with tax exemptions.
He also warned about encroachments causing flooding in Hyderabad, citing the removal of illegal structures as part of the HYDRAA (Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection) initiative. This included partial demolition of the N Convention Center, for which film actor Nagarjuna had given two acres to the city.
Revanth Reddy further announced that the state will pursue legal action to reclaim Gachibowli lands and establish IT companies there, accusing the opposition of obstructing employment opportunities.
He paid tribute to former minister P Janardhan Reddy, naming the new flyover after him, recalling his role in defending migrants, bringing Krishna water to Hyderabad, and resisting the shift of Hitech City to Maharashtra.
