Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has instructed officials to turn the Musi River rejuvenation project into a modern, multi-benefit venture with world-class design and strong tourism potential.
While reviewing the plans, the CM proposed a “Gateway of Hyderabad” on the Outer Ring Road near Himayat Sagar and Gandipet. This would serve as a landmark welcome point for visitors. On one side, he suggested building an eco-theme park. On the Bapu Ghat side, he recommended an iconic tower, both linked by an elevated gateway across the ORR.
Tourism zones and better connectivity
Revanth directed officials to develop the Bapu Ghat surroundings into an international-standard tourism zone. He also called for a new flyover from Attapur towards Himayat Sagar. A connected corridor around Gandipet would then offer direct access from the airport to the lake.
At Gandipet, he proposed one of the world’s tallest iconic towers, subject to a site feasibility review.
Integrated water management
The CM stressed that the project must include both drinking water and floodwater management. He asked teams to study successful river rejuvenation models from across the globe. He also urged better utilisation of water from Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar for Hyderabad’s needs.
To boost supply systems, he proposed underground water storage sumps along both banks of the Musi. He instructed officials to invite tenders for these works within two months.
