Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday told officials to focus on developing eco-tourism in Telangana and to fully use the state’s forest resources. At a review meeting in the Command Control Centre, he said Telangana had vast forests, rivers, and waterfalls that could draw visitors if supported by planned facilities.
Boost for tiger reserves and zoo projects
Revanth Reddy noted that Telangana had the Amrabad and Kawal tiger reserves. Yet, many residents travelled to Bandipur or Tadoba in other states to see tigers. He urged the Forest Department to improve amenities to attract more visitors to local reserves. In addition, he called for plans to develop the Warangal Kakatiya Zoo under a public–private partnership. He said the city’s position as the state’s second-largest urban centre offered strong potential for the project.
The Chief Minister asked the Forest and Revenue Departments to conduct a joint survey to settle boundary disputes. He instructed collectors to give these cases special attention. He also ordered quick compensation for people injured in wildlife attacks. Those who lost livestock or domestic animals should receive payouts without delay, using the CM’s Relief Fund.
Revanth Reddy stressed that road and infrastructure works in forest areas must move ahead with close coordination between departments. He asked officials to secure central clearances as early as possible. To strengthen monitoring, he directed that all forest surveillance cameras be connected to the Command Control Centre. This, he said, would improve tracking of wildlife movement and conservation efforts.
The Chief Minister reviewed staff shortages in the Forest Department. He told the Chief Secretary to work with the Centre to secure more IFS officer posts. He also instructed officials to prepare proposals for promotions and new recruitment. Awards for outstanding service, he said, must be reinstated to encourage good performance.
Forest Minister Konda Surekha, senior officers, and department heads attended the review. The meeting also covered road projects, eco-tourism plans, and steps to strengthen wildlife protection.
