Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has ordered sweeping reforms in Telangana’s education sector, mandating facial recognition for students and staff in all institutions and transferring all school construction to a single authority.
At a review meeting held at the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), the Chief Minister criticised the fragmented handling of school infrastructure by various departments. He directed that the Education, Welfare, and Infrastructure Development Corporation (EWIDC), currently overseeing Young India Integrated Residential Schools, manage all future construction of classrooms, toilets, kitchens, urinals, and boundary walls.

To support this mandate, Revanth Reddy instructed the deputation of engineering and support staff from other departments to EWIDC. He also issued a set of operational orders:
- Route midday meal payments exclusively through the green channel without delays.
- Expedite the construction of sanitation facilities and boundary walls in women’s colleges and girls’ schools.
- Prioritize container kitchens equipped with solar panels for energy efficiency.
- Promote sports in all schools and consider hiring exercise teachers on contract if needed.
- Release pending sanitation-related bills under the Amma Adarsh Schools scheme immediately.
- Appoint women counselors in welfare hostels to guide girl students on social and personal matters.
The Chief Minister said education spending should be treated as a long-term investment. He noted that Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka had requested Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to exempt education sector loans from FRBM limitations, especially for Young India schools.
Revanth Reddy also asked for a report on the last decade of student enrollment in government institutions, aiming to confirm that over 90 percent of students belong to Backward Classes (BCs), Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Communities (STs), and religious minority groups.
Chief Minister’s Advisor Vem Narender Reddy, Special Secretary B. Ajit Reddy, OSD Vemula Srinivasulu, Education Principal Secretary Yogita Rana, and other senior education officials attended the meeting.
