Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday put the state administration on high alert after the India Meteorological Department warned of heavy to very heavy rains over the next 72 hours.
From the Command Control Centre, he held a video conference with senior officials and district collectors. He ordered all officers and staff to cancel leave and return to field duty. He directed Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao to appoint senior IAS officers as special officers in districts likely to be worst affected.
Strict safety and coordination orders
Revanth Reddy told traffic police to stop vehicles on flooded bridges, canals, streams, and causeways. He urged departments—including Electricity, Medical & Health, and Disaster Management to work in close coordination. He stressed that officials must protect both human lives and livestock during floods.
The CM said climate change is causing intense rainfalls, with two months’ worth of downpour now falling within hours. He called for updated disaster management strategies to handle sudden cloudbursts.
District and city-level readiness
He told irrigation officials to track water levels in reservoirs, ponds, and other water bodies, manage hydroelectric generation, and warn the public before releasing water. The power department must operate round-the-clock, keeping mobile transformers, generators, and poles ready. Health staff should stock medicines in PHCs and CHCs and ensure ambulances are available, especially for pregnant people.
In Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda, police commissioners will work jointly with GHMC, HYDRAA, Fire Services, MA&UD, and Disaster Management teams for rescue and traffic control. HYDRAA will launch a toll-free helpline for public complaints.
The CM asked IT and Education departments to decide on work-from-home and school closures after reviewing the situation. He directed officials to send weather alerts via TV and social media without creating panic.
Ministers Sridhar Babu, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, T. Nageswara Rao, Ponnam Prabhakar, DGP Jitender, and other senior officials joined the review.
