HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday inaugurated the Young India Police School at Manchirevula, Narsingi, highlighting its significance for police personnel across Telangana and outlining a broader vision for educational reform and skill development in the state.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister said the concept of a police school had been included in the Congress party’s election manifesto, underlining the government’s commitment to its promises.
Recalling the legacy of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, he noted that Nehru’s visionary leadership laid the foundation for many universities across India, enabling the country to eventually compete with global powers.
Revanth Reddy reflected on how only a few national leaders, including some Prime Ministers and Chief Ministers, are remembered for their impactful decisions. “Each Chief Minister left behind a distinct brand,” he said, citing NT Rama Rao’s subsidised rice scheme, Chandrababu Naidu’s IT revolution in Hyderabad, and Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy’s popularity among farmers.
He said that he was building his own legacy through the “Young India” initiative, a brand rooted in the Gandhian spirit and focused on education and employment.
Highlighting the state’s priority areas, the Chief Minister said the future of the country lies in its classrooms. To that end, the government has launched several initiatives aimed at youth empowerment. Among them is the Young India Skills University, established to train the unemployed in technical skills. Prominent industrialist Anand Mahindra has been appointed Chairperson of the university.
He assured that every student enrolled in the Skills University would have job security and said the government is striving to develop it into one of the best universities in India.
In a move to boost the state’s sports profile, efforts are also underway to set up a Young India Sports University and Academy with an eye on winning medals at future Olympic Games.
The government is also constructing Young India Residential Schools in every Assembly constituency, each spanning 25 acres.
Expressing concern over the decline in student admissions at the primary level in government schools, Revanth Reddy announced that the state will introduce pre-schools in place of first grade as part of systemic reforms.
On the police school front, he said the aim is to develop it on par with the prestigious Sainik School, and the government is ready to allocate significant funds for the project. “It is our collective responsibility to shape this school as a model institution,” he stated.
He called upon private companies to contribute financially to the school as part of their corporate social responsibility. A ₹100 crore corpus fund is being established to support the police school, and the government is prepared to grant all necessary approvals for the initiative.
