Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday held a review meeting on the impact of rains across Telangana and directed officials to remain on high alert. He asked staff to identify residents staying in old and unsafe houses and evacuate them without delay.
The CM instructed officials to maintain strict vigilance near causeways and culverts, where heavy inflows pose a risk to traffic and nearby settlements. Irrigation officers were told to take preventive measures, while all departments were ordered to work in close coordination to avoid lapses in relief operations.
Heavy rain disrupts traffic in Hyderabad
Even as the review meeting concluded, heavy rain lashed several parts of Greater Hyderabad on Thursday evening. The downpour inundated major roads, leaving commuters stranded. In many areas, knee-deep water halted vehicle movement and caused massive traffic jams.
The situation was particularly difficult for motorists travelling from Hayathnagar to L.B. Nagar, where traffic crawled for long stretches. Officials and staff rushed to the affected spots and launched relief measures, including dewatering and traffic regulation.
The CM stressed that citizen safety must remain the first priority and directed officials to continue monitoring conditions through the night.
