HYDERABAD: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy unveiled *Life of a Karma Yogi*, a book by retired IAS officer M Gopala Krishna, in Hyderabad on Sunday. The book captures Krishna’s six decades of administrative experience.
The Chief Minister said he was delighted to release the book. He praised Krishna for compiling his vast knowledge into a guide for civil servants. He stressed that experience cannot be bought and hoped the book would benefit government officials.
Honouring Distinguished Civil Servants
Revanth Reddy recalled three eminent figures—Sankaran, T.N. Seshan, and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. He described Sankaran as a dedicated officer, Seshan as a reformer who ensured transparent elections, and Singh as a leader who strengthened India’s economy. He urged civil servants to learn from their contributions.
Concerns Over Bureaucratic Engagement
The Chief Minister noted that earlier, bureaucrats explained the effects of policies before implementation. He said this practice has declined and urged officials to guide politicians on policy implications.
He also highlighted the reduced public interaction of IAS officers. In the past, people recognized officials for their efficiency. Now, many district collectors stay in offices instead of engaging with the public. He called for a shift in approach and emphasized the need for direct interaction with citizens.
Appeal for Proactive Governance
Revanth Reddy assured that the government would recognize dedicated officials. He encouraged civil servants to actively support the underprivileged. Only efficient, people-centric officers, he said, would leave a lasting impact. He urged all officials to focus on strengthening their connection with the people of Telangana.
