HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy issued a sharp warning to political leaders, stating that those in responsible positions must think before making public statements. His remarks came during the fourth day of the Telangana Assembly session on Monday, where he defended the government’s decision to rename Telugu University after Suravaram Pratap Reddy and condemned efforts to politicize administrative decisions.
Addressing concerns raised over the renaming, Revanth Reddy clarified that the move was meant to honor Suravaram Pratap Reddy’s contributions to Telangana’s literary and journalistic heritage. He emphasized that this change does not diminish the sacrifices of Potti Sreeramulu, whose legacy remains respected.
Taking aim at critics, the Chief Minister accused certain leaders of attempting to divide society along caste lines for political gain. He asserted that the government’s decisions are made in the interest of Telangana’s development and are not driven by favoritism. “Some people are deliberately misleading the public with baseless accusations. Those holding responsible positions should think before speaking,” he said.
Revanth Reddy highlighted that renaming institutions to reflect Telangana’s identity is not a new practice. He pointed out that Telangana Health University was renamed after Kaloji Narayana Rao and proposed that Charlapalli Terminal be named after Potti Sreeramulu. He also suggested naming the Nature Cure Hospital in Balkampet after former Chief Minister K. Rosaiah and installing his statue there.
His strong remarks signaled a firm stand against divisive politics and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to decisions based on merit rather than political appeasement.
