Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday formally requested Union Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister J.P. Nadda to ensure timely supply of urea allocated to the state and to enhance its domestic quota amid growing Kharif season needs.
In a meeting held at the Union Minister’s Delhi residence, Revanth highlighted that only 3.07 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of urea had been delivered out of the 5 lakh MT sanctioned for April–June. He warned that this shortfall was affecting farmers just as irrigation water was reaching projects and sowing activities had picked up across the state.
For July, Telangana is scheduled to receive 63,000 MT of domestically manufactured urea and 97,000 MT of imported urea. However, only 29,000 MT has been supplied so far. The CM asked for the immediate release of the pending quantity and demanded an increase in the state’s share of locally produced urea.
He also raised concerns over inadequate railway rake allocations, urging the Centre to assign more rakes to facilitate fertilizer transport and prevent delays at a critical phase for agriculture.
Advisor A.P. Jithender Reddy, MPs Dr. Mallu Ravi and Chamal Kiran Kumar Reddy, along with senior officials from the Telangana government, attended the meeting.
