Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday directed officials to initiate a welfare fund and implement comprehensive safety and insurance measures for gig workers in Telangana.

At a review meeting held at the Secretariat, Revanth Reddy said gig workers should be brought under formal welfare protections, with accident and health insurance coverage prioritised. He instructed officials to ensure relevant data on gig workers is systematically collected and made publicly accessible.

Officials presented a draft policy for gig workers during the meeting and proposed extending legal recognition to workers in the sector. Discussions also included the formation of a welfare board with government representation to oversee the implementation and monitoring of these protections.

Revanth Reddy emphasised the growing role of gig work in the state’s economy and stressed the need for inclusive policy-making that reflects workers’ rights and welfare needs.
