Hyderabad: A demand to disqualify Forest Minister Konda Surekha from her post has gained traction after separate complaints were filed with the State Election Commission.
Former BRS MLA N Narendra lodged a formal complaint citing recent remarks made by Konda Surekha’s husband, Konda Murali, who during a press meet claimed they had spent ₹70 crore to win the Assembly election.
BRS leaders argued before the Election Commission that spending such massive sums amounted to a serious breach of election norms and was equivalent to buying votes. They urged the Commission to disqualify Surekha from her Assembly seat.
In a parallel complaint, BJP candidate A Pradeep Rao alleged that Konda Surekha submitted a false affidavit during the election process. He also included Konda Murali’s statements as evidence in his petition.
