HYDERABAD: The Congress party has unexpectedly awarded an MLC ticket to actress and former MP Vijayashanti, sparking extensive discussions in political circles. Known for her dynamic roles in both cinema and politics, Vijayashanti had been relatively inactive in recent times. This sudden nomination has led to speculation about the reasons behind the party’s decision.
Period of Inactivity
After joining the Congress party before the assembly elections, Vijayashanti maintained a low profile. She seldom attended party events at Gandhi Bhavan, leading many to believe she had distanced herself from active politics. Her absence from discussions on various welfare schemes implemented by the Revanth Reddy government further fueled this perception. However, reports indicate that she recently traveled to Delhi to meet with senior party leaders, a move that went largely unnoticed by state leaders. The sudden announcement of her MLC ticket has taken many by surprise.
Initiation by AICC Leaders
Sources close to Vijayashanti suggest that senior leaders from the All India Congress Committee (AICC) personally invited her to Delhi to offer the MLC position. There is talk that she engaged in lobbying with a key leader in the high command, having been advocating for a position for some time. Initially, there were speculations about her being appointed as the state’s official representative in Delhi. However, considering the current political climate, the high command preferred to send her to the legislative council. With experience working alongside both BRS and BJP, it is believed that she has been entrusted with the responsibility of challenging KCR and attacking the BJP. Discussions are ongoing in political circles about whether this MLC position is a standalone offer or a precursor to future roles.
