Hyderabad: The Congress party launched its Chalo Delhi campaign on Monday, demanding Presidential assent for the 42% BC reservation bill passed by the Telangana Assembly.
Party leaders left from Charlapalli railway station in a special train. District-level representatives joined them for the journey to the capital. AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud, and ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and Vakiti Srihari flagged off the march.
Congress workers in large numbers accompanied the leaders. The party will hold a dharna at Jantar Mantar on August 6 to highlight the demand.
Leaders have accused the Union government of delaying approval of the BC quota bill. Congress MPs plan to move an adjournment motion in Parliament on Tuesday. They aim to force a debate on the issue.
On August 7, the party will meet the President. They plan to submit a formal representation seeking immediate assent.
Addressing supporters, Meenakshi Natarajan said the Telangana government had passed the quota bill. However, she alleged the Centre continues to block its progress. “We will continue our struggle until BC reservations are fully realised,” she said.
