Hyderabad: Telangana BJP President N. Ramchander Rao on Monday accused the Congress government of continuing to cheat Backward Classes (BCs) by failing to follow the proper legal process while implementing 42% reservations in local body elections.
Speaking to reporters, Rao clarified that the Supreme Court’s recent dismissal of a petition against the reservation was procedural, as a related matter is already pending before the Telangana High Court. “It is standard legal practice for the Supreme Court to defer such matters to the High Court when a similar case is already being heard,” he said.
Congress cheating BCs on reservation, says BJP
Rao slammed Congress leaders for staging what he called “political theatrics” by rushing to Delhi and projecting the procedural dismissal as a legal victory. He reiterated that the BJP fully supports the 42% reservation for BCs and demanded that the Congress government pursue the case seriously in court by engaging legal experts.
He also criticised the hike in RTC bus fares, calling it anti-poor. “The Congress promised free bus rides for women but has now increased fares for the public. Raising the minimum fare to ₹10 is unfair to the destitute and middle class,” he said.
BJP sets up panel for Jubilee Hills bypoll
Rao announced the formation of a three-member committee to gather feedback and recommend a BJP candidate for the upcoming Jubilee Hills Assembly by-election. The panel includes former MLA M. Dharma Rao, former MP Ramulu, and Komala Anjaneyulu.
Meanwhile, several Muslim community leaders from Maheshwaram constituency joined the BJP in the presence of MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy. Rao welcomed them with party scarves and said the growing support from Muslims reflects their confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development policies.
BJP state spokesperson NV Subhash was also present at the press meet.
