Hyderabad: TPCC president and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud called the Congress government’s ordinance providing 42% reservations for Backward Classes in Telangana’s local body elections a landmark move for social justice.
Addressing reporters at Gandhi Bhavan, Goud said the Congress deserved full credit for implementing the highest-ever quota for BCs in the country. He recalled his earlier announcement of the BC Declaration in Kamareddy and reiterated the party’s long-standing commitment to backward communities.
Goud sharply criticised BRS MLC K. Kavitha, questioning her political stance. “It’s absurd that she’s celebrating an ordinance brought by Congress. If BRS had any moral clarity, she would have resigned. Instead, during the BC Declaration, she was embroiled in the liquor scam,” he said.
He accused the BRS of siding with the BJP during its tenure, supporting all bills introduced by the ruling party in Parliament. He described it as a covert alliance.
Turning his attack on the BJP, Goud accused the party of sidelining BCs by not appointing one as the state president. “When BCs are finally asserting their rightful share, BJP continues to ignore their leadership,” he said.
He reaffirmed Congress’s resolve to implement BC reservations in upcoming elections and challenged both BRS and BJP on their records. “The people of Telangana will decide who stands for backward communities and who merely uses them,” he said.
