Hyderabad: Telangana’s Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy has reiterated the Congress government’s steadfast commitment to secularism and the safeguarding of minority rights, asserting that inclusive governance is essential for national progress.
Speaking at Haj House on Tuesday night while flagging off a convoy of pilgrims embarking on their journey to Mecca, the Minister stressed that true development cannot occur without the equal participation of religious minorities in all spheres of life. “No nation can advance unless it provides equitable opportunities for every community,” he said, underlining the critical role of economic empowerment, education, and social integration.
In a pointed critique of rising communal tensions across the country, Reddy warned that the secular ethos of India is under growing strain. “We are witnessing a dangerous rise in divisive rhetoric, pushed for short-term political gains. This not only undermines our national unity but also shakes the very foundations of our Constitution,” he said.

He described secularism as a defining principle of India’s identity, not merely a political slogan, and affirmed that the Congress party has consistently upheld this value in both spirit and practice.
Highlighting the state government’s efforts, Reddy noted that the Congress-led administration in Telangana has introduced several initiatives aimed at empowering minorities, framing them as part of a broader commitment to inclusive governance.
