Hyderabad: Congress leaders renewed their demand for Bharat Ratna to former Union Minister Jaipal Reddy on his death anniversary, citing his role in Telangana’s formation and his reputation as one of the country’s most honest politicians.
Floral tributes were paid at the memorial on Necklace Road by Ministers Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Ponnam Prabhakar, former Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, MP K. Keshava Rao, MRPS founder and Padma Shri recipient Manda Krishna Madiga, and several MLAs and public figures.
Speaking at the event, Komatireddy said Jaipal Reddy’s contributions to Telangana were critical, especially during the statehood movement. He credited Reddy’s intervention for bringing the Metro Rail project to Hyderabad and demanded the Centre award him the Bharat Ratna.
Achampet MLA Vamshi Krishna supported the call and proposed renaming Nagarkurnool district after Jaipal Reddy. He noted Reddy’s recognition with the Outstanding Parliamentarian Award and described him as a national leader of rare integrity.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s wife Geetha Reddy and daughter Naimisha Reddy also joined Reddy’s family in paying homage at the memorial.
