Hyderabad: The Congress party held a key meeting at Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday to examine legal options for enforcing 42% reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) in Telangana.
AICC in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, TPCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud, Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka, and ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy, Sridhar Babu, Ponnam Prabhakar, and Seethakka took part in the discussions. The committee outlined three possible ways to implement the proposal.
BC reservations implementation options to be tabled in August 30 cabinet
The first option is to issue a government order (GO) that directly applies the 42% quota. The second suggests passing a resolution in the Assembly to bypass the 50% ceiling. The third focuses on allocating 42% of party tickets to BC candidates.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy formed this panel to consult legal experts and guide the government. It includes Bhatti, Uttam, Ponnam, Sridhar Babu, and Seethakka. The committee was supposed to submit its report by August 26, but unclear legal details delayed the process.
Leaders plan to present the final recommendations in the state cabinet meeting scheduled for August 30. Sources say the same meeting may also include an announcement on local body elections.
