Hyderabad: Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy on Sunday criticised the Congress government in Telangana for failing to effectively defend 42% BC reservations in the High Court. He accused the state of lacking seriousness in safeguarding backward class rights.
At a press conference, Kishan Reddy said neither the President nor a Union Minister could override a Supreme Court verdict. “In Maharashtra, even though our party is in power, we couldn’t stop a similar court ruling against BC quota,” he noted.
He blamed the Congress for allowing the 50% cap on reservations, which the Supreme Court introduced during its earlier tenure. Reddy argued that the party had failed to challenge it both in the past and now.
Kishan Reddy backs BC reservation, urges stronger legal action
Kishan Reddy welcomed the state’s decision to approach the Supreme Court over the BC reservation issue. “The BJP fully supports the demand for BC reservations,” he said.
On the Jubilee Hills bypoll, he shared that the BJP had sent three potential candidate names to the party’s national leadership. The final choice will be made after the Parliamentary Board meeting, he added.
