HYDERABAD: The Congress party has filed a formal complaint against K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and Leader of the Opposition, addressing Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar. In the complaint, Congress leaders have requested the suspension of KCR’s salary, citing his continuous absence from legislative sessions.
The complaint emphasizes that public representatives, including the Leader of the Opposition, are expected to diligently perform their duties for the welfare of the people. It highlights that the salaries of elected representatives are funded by taxpayers, and KCR’s non-attendance at Assembly sessions signifies a neglect of his responsibilities as the Leader of the Opposition.
In a democratic system, the role of the Leader of the Opposition is crucial for ensuring government accountability, providing constructive criticism, and offering alternative solutions. The Congress party contends that KCR’s failure to attend sessions and participate in discussions undermines this essential function, thereby disrespecting the people of Telangana.
Consequently, the Congress leaders have urged the Speaker to reconsider the disbursement of KCR’s salary and allowances until he fulfills his duties and responsibilities appropriately.
