Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao accused the Congress government of betraying gig and platform workers by ignoring promises made under the Abhayahastam Declaration. He demanded the immediate formation of a welfare board and implementation of all social security measures announced during the election campaign.
Congress gig workers betrayal draws fire from KTR
KTR addressed the issue after meeting representatives of the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU) at Telangana Bhavan on Wednesday. The workers said Congress had failed to deliver on any of its pledges, including insurance, wages, and compensation.
He criticised the Congress party for releasing a special gig workers declaration before the elections and then discarding it. “Rahul Gandhi promised to take full responsibility. He must act now,” KTR stated.
KTR demands ₹5 lakh compensation and gig workers welfare board
KTR highlighted the deaths of workers Ahmed Bin Abdul Quder, Sham Sunder, and Lokurthi Naresh. He expressed outrage that their families had not received the ₹5 lakh insurance despite submitting all required documents. He called it shameful to ignore workers who served the public during crises like the Covid-19 pandemic.
He urged the government to clear compensation payments immediately. He also called for a legal framework to safeguard gig workers’ rights. KTR assured that BRS would support any legislation aimed at protecting the welfare, dignity, and security of gig and platform workers.
