HYDERABAD: BRS legislators, including MLAs and MLCs, staged a protest in the Assembly premises holding dried paddy crops on Wednesday, symbolizing the widespread agricultural distress in the state. They asserted that the current crisis is not due to natural drought but is a man-made disaster brought about by the Congress government’s negligence. The protesters chanted slogans labeling Revanth Reddy as a curse to farmers, highlighting the government’s apathy towards the agrarian community.
Addressing the media, BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) lambasted the state government for its lack of foresight and ineffective governance, which he claims have led to the withering of crops across Telangana. He criticized Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for attributing the crop failures to heatwaves, dismissing it as an excuse to cover up the administration’s incompetence.
KTR accused Revanth Reddy of ineptitude and a lack of intelligence, particularly in managing irrigation projects, leading to the current agricultural crisis. He alleged that the government’s disregard for farmers and the agricultural sector has resulted in extensive crop failures.
Demanding immediate action, KTR called for compensation of ₹25,000 per acre for the affected farmers. He insisted that the state government allocate funds in the current budget to address the losses suffered by the farming community. Emphasizing the government’s responsibility, he stated that the BRS party stands in solidarity with the farmers and will tour various regions to support and reassure them.
He concluded with a proverb, “Even when everything is available in the store, the son-in-law’s mouth has misfortune,” implying that despite having resources, the government’s mismanagement has led to the current predicament.
