Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) accused the Congress government of betraying Backward Classes (BCs) after winning power with their support. The party demanded legal clarity on BC reservation promises.
Former minister and BRS leader V Srinivas Goud slammed the Congress for not introducing a BC reservation bill in Parliament. He pointed out that the party has the support of 311 MPs but failed to act. Goud criticised the government for switching from Assembly theatrics to an ordinance, and now to a government order (GO) proposing 42 percent BC reservations in local body elections.
At Telangana Bhavan, Goud called the GO proposal another attempt to mislead BCs. “If a GO is now sufficient, why has the government delayed action for 20 months?” he asked. He insisted that only legal backing can ensure proper implementation of BC reservations.
Kamareddy declaration and cabinet representation under fire
BRS MLC L Ramana criticised the Kamareddy BC Declaration, calling the Congress’s investment claims misleading. He said the BC community deserved at least eight cabinet berths but received only two. Ramana demanded a white paper on the party’s manifesto promises and urged legal enforcement of all BC reservation commitments to prevent injustice.
