Hyderabad: Police have summoned Congress legal cell convener for Kamareddy district, Devaraj Goud, to appear at Jubilee Hills police station within a week for recording his statement in the ongoing phone tapping case. The notice was served on Sunday, marking a significant development in the politically sensitive investigation.
The case stems from allegations that phones were illegally monitored during the last Assembly elections in Kamareddy, where Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and BRS chief K. Chandrashekar Rao contested. Congress leaders had previously claimed that their phones were being tapped during the campaign.
The spotlight on Devaraj Goud has raised eyebrows, especially since Telangana CM Revanth Reddy’s brother, Kondal Reddy, stayed at Goud’s residence during the Kamareddy campaign. In that time, police carried out two searches at Goud’s home and reportedly kept him under close watch.
Speaking to reporters, Devaraj Goud affirmed that his phone had indeed been tapped. “Wherever I went during the elections, the police would follow. Jubilee Hills police called me asking for a statement. I’ll go in a couple of days,” he said.
The summons suggest that police are gathering direct accounts from those who were allegedly monitored, as part of the larger investigation into electoral surveillance.
