Hyderabad: The Congress party suffered a major setback in Achampet constituency on Saturday as several local leaders switched to the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). Former Charagonda MPP and sarpanch Gunde Nirmala, along with her husband Vijender Goud, left the Congress and joined BRS.
BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao welcomed the couple by personally offering party scarves. Former ministers Srinivas Goud and Lakshma Reddy, along with MLA Jagadish Reddy and other leaders, attended the joining event.
The move dealt another political blow to Congress ahead of the upcoming elections. Key grassroots leaders from southern Telangana continue to shift their support to the ruling BRS.
