HYDERABAD: Congress MLA Vivek Venkatswamy and MP Gaddam Vamsi Krishna have urged Union Minister Kishan Reddy to address the ongoing delays in cotton procurement in Mancherial district. They highlighted the long waiting periods farmers face due to inefficiencies in the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) purchasing process. To speed up procurement and ease financial burdens, they proposed using manual procurement methods.
In response, Kishan Reddy assured them of prompt action. He stated that he would engage with CCI officials to resolve the issue quickly.
Farmers Protest Over Procurement Delays
Meanwhile, farmers from multiple mandals in Mancherial district staged protests near Sriram Ginning Mill in Bellampalli. They expressed frustration over CCI’s failure to procure cotton for over a week. The delays have increased transportation costs, adding to their economic struggles.
Technical issues, including non-functional Aadhaar servers, have further disrupted procurement for the past two days. As a result, many farmers have had to sell their produce to private buyers at lower prices, worsening their financial situation.
Demand for Streamlined Procurement
The crisis has highlighted the urgent need for efficient procurement systems that ensure timely purchases and fair compensation for farmers. Leaders and farmer associations continue to push for immediate reforms to prevent further distress in the agricultural sector.
