Hyderabad: Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar confirmed on Tuesday that Congress will grant the Jubilee Hills by-election ticket only to a local candidate, not an outsider, reinforcing its commitment to constituency representation.
At the press conference, Ponnam said aspirants from different parts of the constituency are being evaluated via a party survey. He insisted that collaboration among all hopefuls is essential:
“The party will decide. Strong volunteers selected via survey performance will stand in Jubilee Hills.”
He expressed confidence that the Congress flag will soar over Jubilee Hills.
Ponnam also highlighted the state government’s infrastructure efforts in Hyderabad, mentioning the construction of flyovers, underpasses, sewage treatment plants, and parks. He emphasized that the current government is the only one to have provided new water supply to the city under Godavari Phase II.
He outlined pollution control measures:
Mandating only electric, CNG, or LPG-run autos inside the ring road
Converting RTC buses into electric vehicles
Installing rainwater harvesting pits to boost groundwater and reduce environmental harm
Congress leaders Azharuddin and Naveen Yadav accompanied him and reiterated support for clean development initiatives.
