Hyderabad: The Congress high command is reportedly leaning towards leaving the working president posts in the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) vacant this time, sources say. Traditionally, working presidents hold significant sway, second only to the TPCC chief in the party hierarchy.
When N. Uttam Kumar Reddy helmed the Telangana PCC, the party had four working presidents. His successor, Revanth Reddy, expanded the structure by appointing five. However, reliable sources suggest that the party leadership is not keen on filling these posts now, reflecting a trend seen in other Congress-ruled states.
In Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh, for instance, the party has left similar posts vacant. Party insiders believe the same formula could be applied to Telangana, as the AICC aims to streamline state units without creating overlapping roles.
On Monday night, the party announced the appointment of only vice-presidents and general secretaries, leaving out even the senior vice-president posts. Previously, the TPCC had at least ten senior vice-presidents, but the new structure has scrapped those positions.
Many leaders had set their sights on the working president roles, and the prospect of leaving these posts unfilled has triggered lobbying within the party. Even though there has been no official confirmation yet, several aspirants have been approaching senior leaders at both the state and national levels, pressing their case for these influential positions.
