Hyderabad: Congress MPs from Telangana protested inside the Parliament complex on Tuesday, demanding that the Centre approve the 42% BC reservation bill passed by the state assembly.
MP Kiran Kumar Reddy told reporters that the Congress remains committed to ensuring political and social rights for Backward Classes. He said the Telangana Assembly had cleared the bill, and the state cabinet issued an ordinance to fast-track it. Now, the Centre must give its approval, he added.
Reddy urged the Union government to act without delay. He said Congress MPs had already raised the issue in Parliament and moved an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha to trigger a full debate.
He stressed that BC representation is not just a state issue but a national concern. “Parliament must give this matter urgent attention,” he said.
Congress plans to escalate its demand with a massive dharna at Jantar Mantar on Wednesday. Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, state ministers, MLAs, MPs, BC leaders, and thousands of workers are expected to join.
Reddy also said that a high-level Congress delegation will meet the President of India on Thursday to seek formal assent for the bill. The party, he said, will continue its campaign inside and outside Parliament until BC communities receive justice.
