Delhi: The BJP-led NDA has announced Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan as its candidate for the Vice President of India. The decision was taken during a BJP parliamentary board meeting on Sunday, where senior leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh were present.
JP Nadda formally declared the nomination, stating that Radhakrishnan would file his papers on August 21. Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers from all NDA-ruled states are expected to be present during the filing.

Born on May 4, 1957, in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan joined the RSS at the age of 16. He was elected MP from Coimbatore in 1998 and 1999, and served as Tamil Nadu BJP president from 2004 to 2007. He was appointed Governor of Jharkhand in 2023 and later shifted to Maharashtra.

The Vice Presidential election will take place on September 9, with the counting scheduled the same day. August 21 is the deadline for filing nominations, and candidates can withdraw by August 25.
The election was necessitated by the unexpected resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar on July 21. Dhankhar, who had nearly two years left in his term, stepped down with immediate effect.
