Hyderabad: CPI leader K Narayana stepped down as national secretary after turning 75 years old. Speaking to reporters at the party office in New Delhi on Saturday, he explained that the decision followed the rule adopted by the party’s national congress in Chandigarh.
According to the resolution, leaders who reach the age of 75 must leave key positions. The rule applied to all national and state posts, though the general secretary’s post was exempted. Therefore, D. Raja continues as general secretary.
Narayana takes charge of control commission
The party appointed Narayana as chairman of the CPI control commission. He said the body was created to resolve internal disputes and handle organisational issues transparently. Consequently, the commission’s role would strengthen accountability within the party.
Narayana emphasised that the retirement rule was not sudden but a collective policy meant to balance leadership responsibilities. He explained that age-related retirement allows younger leaders to take charge while senior leaders continue contributing in advisory or supervisory roles. Additionally, he underlined that his move respected party norms and reinforced the principle of shared responsibility in leadership.
