HYDERABAD: CPI National Secretary Narayana has alleged that the central BJP government is exerting increasing pressure on the judiciary, compromising its independence.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Narayana highlighted concerns regarding Delhi High Court Justice Yashwant Varma, stating that judges favoring the BJP are being elevated to prominent positions, including Rajya Sabha memberships and governorships. He accused the Modi-led central government of undermining the judiciary by imposing undue influence and creating obstacles for the collegium system.
Narayana emphasized that such actions lead to a perception within the judiciary that corruption is being rewarded with promotions, which is detrimental to judicial integrity. Referring to Justice Varma’s alleged involvement in financial misconduct, Narayana described the incident as a stain on the judiciary, pointing to the exposed cash bundles as evidence of corruption. He demanded that Justice Varma be seated on a sofa at the High Court entrance without assignment as a form of punishment.
Expressing further concern, Narayana stated that while Justice Varma’s misconduct has been exposed, there are many others who remain undiscovered. He lamented that the central government’s approach is harming not only the judiciary but also other institutions, which is deeply regrettable. Narayana underscored that the public holds the courts in high regard, and any compromise in their integrity raises questions about where citizens can seek justice. He concluded by asserting the necessity of addressing these issues promptly to preserve the sanctity of the judiciary.
