Hyderabad: CPI(M) Telangana state secretary John Wesley demanded that the government clarify its policy on Regional Ring Road (RRR) alignment changes and farmer compensation. He warned that any attempt to take land without consultations or gram sabhas would face strong resistance.
CPI(M) demands clarity on RRR alignment and farmer compensation
Wesley said the government must avoid conflict by announcing a transparent policy. He recalled that the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) issued the first notification for a 100-metre-wide RRR covering 8 districts, 33 mandals, and 163 villages. The government also announced an additional 40-foot expansion for a railway track.
However, officials later issued three different alignments. Each revision, he said, deepened suspicion among farmers. According to him, the latest route excluded lands owned by influential people. Instead, it targeted small and marginal farmers with plots of one to three acres. Therefore, allegations of bias and political pressure had grown stronger.
He emphasised that many farmers rely entirely on these lands for their survival. In addition, he said they had no other livelihood option. For this reason, he accused the government of sacrificing small farmers to benefit a few wealthy landowners. CPI(M), he declared, strongly opposed such a policy.
Meanwhile, Wesley announced that CPI(M) would hold a meeting in Hyderabad on September 23. Party leaders, along with district and mandal representatives of affected farmers, would attend the session to plan future action.
