Hyderabad: Cyber fraud incidents continue to rise despite repeated awareness campaigns by the police and government. In the latest case from Sangareddy district, cybercriminals duped an IT employee from Patancheru and siphoned off a total of ₹54 lakh in multiple transactions.

According to police, the fraudsters contacted the victim on Telegram on September 15. They offered commissions for giving ratings to branded products and asked her to invest ₹5,000 initially. Shortly after, the scammers credited ₹12,000 to her account to gain her trust. Believing the offer was genuine, the IT professional continued investing, eventually losing ₹54 lakh.
The victim filed a complaint with the Patancheru Police Station after realising the fraud. The police have registered a case and started an investigation. Officers also urged the public to stay alert against similar scams, especially those involving social media and online task-based schemes.
