Hyderabad: As part of a focused weekend operation, Cyberabad police launched extensive drunk driving checks on Saturday night, resulting in the arrest of 238 motorists across the commissionerate’s jurisdiction.
Among those detained were 187 two-wheeler riders, 45 car drivers, and three auto-rickshaw drivers, according to a police statement. The crackdown aimed to reduce road accidents and enforce traffic discipline, especially during peak weekend hours.
A demographic breakdown of the arrests revealed that the majority of offenders were in the 31–40 age group, totalling 83 individuals. Another 78 offenders were aged between 21 and 30, while 12 were over 51 years of age.
The operation saw varied enforcement across different zones. Chevella police registered the highest number of arrests at 27, followed by Miyapur with 24, and Balanagar with 20 cases.
Police reiterated that drunk driving remains a serious offence under the Motor Vehicles Act and warned that repeat offenders could face licence suspension, imprisonment, or both. Authorities also urged citizens to act responsibly and avoid driving under the influence to protect both their lives and others on the road.
