Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Traffic Police apprehended 252 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol, sounding a fresh alarm over road safety violations in the city.
The special drive was conducted across various checkpoints during the weekend. This resulted in the seizure of 199 two-wheelers, 10 three-wheelers, and 43 four-wheelers. No heavy vehicles were found involved in the offences.
Data released by the police reveals that a vast majority—228 of the 252 offenders—had blood alcohol concentration (BAC) levels ranging between 35 and 200 mg/100 ml. Another 18 motorists were caught with BAC levels between 201 and 300 mg/100 ml, while six individuals had dangerously high readings between 301 and 500 mg/100 ml.
All violators will be produced before the court, police said. A stern message was issued urging citizens to avoid drunk driving, noting the risk it poses not only to the driver but also to others on the road.
Officials also reminded that under Section 105 of the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, those involved in fatal drunk driving accidents can face charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder—a serious offence that carries up to 10 years’ imprisonment along with a fine.
With weekend nightlife thriving across Cyberabad, the traffic police have vowed to keep up surprise checks and pursue offenders with zero tolerance.
