Hyderabad: Cyberabad Traffic Police booked 490 people for drunk driving during a weekend enforcement drive, targeting offenders across all vehicle types.
Among those caught, 384 were riding two-wheelers, 20 were in three-wheelers, 79 drove four-wheelers, and 7 were operating heavy vehicles. Police will present all offenders before the Hon’ble Court.
Most offenders had Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels between 35 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. Another 42 had BAC levels from 201 to 300 mg/100 ml, while 16 had readings between 301 and 550 mg/100 ml.

Officials stressed that driving under the influence is a serious crime. If an intoxicated driver causes a fatal accident, they can face charges under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The law treats it as culpable homicide not amounting to murder and allows up to 10 years in prison and a fine.
Between September 15 and 20, the court resolved 199 drunk driving cases. Of these, 187 drivers paid fines and 12 received jail terms. Four went to jail for one day, five for two days, and three for two days. Another 17 were assigned social service.
Police urged all citizens to act responsibly and avoid driving while intoxicated. They reaffirmed their commitment to public safety and strict enforcement.
