Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Traffic Police held a comprehensive review meeting on Saturday, chaired by Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dr Gajarao Bhupal, IPS, at the Cyberabad Commissioner’s Office. Senior traffic officials from across the commissionerate participated in the meeting, which focused on enhancing traffic management, enforcement, and road safety measures.
A key agenda was the detailed examination of accident data for the January–April period in both 2024 and 2025. Officials identified accident-prone zones, particularly along the Outer Ring Road (ORR), which have now been classified as black spots. The Jt. CP directed that these areas be equipped with improved signage and safety infrastructure to reduce casualties.
The meeting raised concerns about the growing number of pedestrian-related accidents. Authorities outlined multiple corrective measures, including the installation of barricades, improvements to pedestrian crossings, and enforcement at zebra crossings. Footpaths are to be cleared of obstructions to ensure they remain usable, and signal timings will be adjusted to support safer pedestrian movement.
Officials also discussed strict measures against wrong-side driving, categorising incidents into contact and non-contact violations. Month-wise and police station-level analysis was used to pinpoint habitual violators and hotspots. CCTV performance was reviewed, and sites requiring new surveillance infrastructure have been identified and prioritised.
The removal of unauthorised structures and encroachments near intersections and footpaths was also on the agenda. Coordination with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) was recommended to address these concerns, particularly in high-density zones.
Improved parking arrangements and the promotion of lane discipline were among the broader strategies discussed to ease traffic congestion. Senior officers were instructed to carry out regular inspections and performance reviews.
Dr Bhupal noted the installation of high-rise cameras to monitor blind spots and emphasised the need for separate lanes for two-wheelers, four-wheelers, and pedestrians. With the monsoon approaching, officials were asked to ensure that open manholes are secured and drainage does not affect road safety.
Instructions were also given to clearly mark all zebra crossings and designate official pedestrian points. CCTV surveillance and enforcement mechanisms will be strengthened around these areas.
The meeting was attended by DCP Road Safety L.C. Naik, Medchal Traffic DCP Gunashekar, ADCP Veeranna, ACPs from Madhapur, Rajendranagar, Kukatpally, Balanagar, and Medchal, along with traffic inspectors and other field-level officers.
