Hyderabad: In an effort to curb rising traffic violations and enhance road safety, the Cyberabad Traffic Police have launched a new initiative targeting wrong-side driving. The department has introduced a dedicated WhatsApp number, enabling citizens to directly report such violations by submitting photographic or video evidence.
Wrong-side driving has emerged as a serious concern in the region, often leading to traffic congestion and avoidable accidents, particularly in areas lacking direct police supervision. To tackle this menace, the Cyberabad Traffic Police are empowering commuters to act as citizen watchdogs.
As part of the initiative, the police have urged the public to capture and share photos or videos of vehicles travelling on the wrong side of the road. These can be sent to the official WhatsApp number 9490617346. Along with the visual evidence, citizens are requested to include the location, time, and date of the incident.
Taking to social media, the Cyberabad Traffic Police posted an appeal on their official ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) account, encouraging people to actively participate in the campaign. They assured that fines will be imposed on violators based on the evidence provided.
This crowdsourced enforcement model aims to cover areas where traffic personnel may not always be present and to build a culture of shared responsibility for safer roads. Authorities believe that empowering the public in this manner can significantly deter reckless driving behaviours and reduce accidents.
The initiative has received positive responses online, with many residents welcoming the opportunity to contribute to improved road discipline in their localities.
