Dalit man killed in honour killing by girl’s father, uncle in Telangana’s Jagtial

Hyderabad: A 26-year-old Dalit man was brutally murdered in what police have confirmed as a case of honour killing in Jagtial district, after he was accused of pursuing a relationship with a BC woman from the same village.

The victim, Challuri Mallesh of Kishanraopet in Velgatur mandal, was stabbed to death on Thursday by the woman’s father and uncle. The attack followed repeated warnings to Mallesh to stay away from the woman, which he reportedly ignored.

Police said the woman’s family had earlier filed a case against Mallesh. When they learned that he had visited her house following news of a marriage alliance being fixed for her, they allegedly planned a retaliatory attack.

As Mallesh returned to Velgatur, the assailants intercepted him at a bridge near Peddavagu and assaulted him. They then took him to an isolated spot behind an old wine shop on the road to Kotilingala and stabbed him multiple times with knives.

Responding to a Dial 100 call, police reached the scene and found Mallesh lying in a pool of blood.

Following a complaint by Mallesh’s father, Rajaiah, a case has been registered. He demanded strict punishment for those who “unjustly killed” his son.

Police have launched a manhunt for the accused, who are currently absconding.
