Hyderabad: Telangana Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha on Thursday visited Medak district’s Ramayampet town which was hit hard by floodwater when it was brought out by heavy rainfall in recent days. He was accompanied by veteran Congress leader Mynampally Hanumantha Rao. There, he met victims, made an on-the-spot survey of submerged localities, as well as low-lying areas.
The Minister ordered officials to relocate people immediately from flooding-affected houses to safe places and distribute basic relief such as food, clothing, and bed sheets. He also inspected relief works with Medak District Collector Ashish Sangwan and Superintendent of Police.
60 people rescued, one death reported
Authorities stated rescue operations jointly by Revenue, Police, Disaster Management, and Health Department units had managed to rescue 60 individuals stranded in floodwaters. There had been a single casualty reported thus far, while rescue operations were still underway for those still missing.
Residents told the minister it had not rained so heavily in the region in the past 50 years. There are still isolated villages in the mandal as flash floods damaged roads.
Damodar Raja Narasimha assured people that the government was assessing crop and property loss and would take steps to compensate affected families. He said road repairs in flood-hit areas would be taken up on a priority basis to restore connectivity.
The minister added that health teams were being deployed to prevent the outbreak of seasonal diseases in waterlogged colonies. Sanitation drives would also be intensified to clear debris and drain stagnant water.
The flooding has submerged entire expanses of cultivated land, adding to farmers’ losses. Damodar Raja Narasimha stated that safeguarding life was a priority for the government and restoring normalcy at a swift pace.
