Hyderabad: Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender on Tuesday demanded that the Kaleshwaram project probe cover contractors and officials, not just politicians. Speaking to reporters, he dismissed BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha’s allegation that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy was behind the rift involving T. Harish Rao and J. Santosh Kumar. Nagender called it a political charge lacking substance.
Danam Nagender seeks wider Kaleshwaram probe
Nagender said the Justice P.C. Ghose Commission report exposed serious irregularities in the multi-crore irrigation project. However, he argued that the inquiry should not focus only on political leaders. “In such cases, it is not fair to make politicians scapegoats. Hundreds of crores have been unearthed from officials. What about their accountability?” he asked.
He added that contractors who executed the project should also face scrutiny. “The Kaleshwaram probe must look into every aspect of planning, execution, and financial dealings. Only then will the truth emerge,” Nagender said.
Clarifies on defection row
The Khairatabad legislator also addressed speculation about defection petitions, stating he had not received any notice from the Speaker. He dismissed reports of pending action as baseless.
State’s request for CBI inquiry
The Telangana government has already written to the Union Home Ministry seeking a CBI investigation into the alleged irregularities flagged by the commission. The state urged that the Kaleshwaram probe cover the role of central and state departments to ensure accountability.
Nagender’s remarks come at a time when BRS leaders are divided over Kavitha’s explosive charge that Harish Rao and Santosh Kumar had tarnished KCR’s image. His demand for a contractor-focused Kaleshwaram probe indicates an effort to shift the debate away from personal blame and towards systemic accountability.
