Hyderabad: Telangana Legislative Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar announced that he will hear the disqualification petitions against defected BRS MLAs on Monday. In a statement on Saturday, he said the hearings will take place in the Assembly throughout the day.
As per the schedule, MLA Prakash Goud will appear at 11 a.m., followed by MLA Kale Yadayya at 12 noon. The Speaker will hear MLA Gudem Mahipal Reddy at 1 p.m. and MLA Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy at 3 p.m.
BRS petitions and MLAs’ defence
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi filed the petitions, alleging that its members defected by joining the Congress party. The party urged the Speaker to disqualify them under anti-defection rules. However, the MLAs rejected the charges. They said they had not switched parties and maintained that they remain with the BRS.
With both sides presenting opposing claims, Monday’s hearing has gained significance.
