DGP visits injured mechanic Asif, announces gallantry award recommendation

Hyderabad: Telangana DGP Shivadhar Reddy on Tuesday visited bike mechanic Asif, who sustained serious injuries while attempting to stop rowdy sheeter Sheikh Riyaz the prime accused in the murder of a Nizamabad police constable.

Asif is undergoing treatment at Glenfield Mallareddy Hospital in Nampally. Speaking to reporters after the visit, the DGP confirmed that Asif’s condition had stabilised. Doctors recently performed successful surgery to repair his severely injured hand. His overall recovery is progressing well.

The DGP announced that the state government would bear the entire cost of Asif’s treatment. He also stated that Asif’s name would be recommended to the Government of India for a Gallantry Award, recognising his courage in confronting an armed criminal.

Reddy noted that Asif had previously worked as a welder and now runs a bike repair shop. He assured that the police department would offer complete support to him and his family during his recovery.

Discharge likely in days, full recovery may take months

According to doctors, Asif could be discharged in two to three days. However, his full physical recovery may take another two to three months. The DGP reiterated that all medical and personal assistance would continue until his rehabilitation is complete. (NSS)
