HYDERABAD: Prominent filmmakers Tarun Bhaskar and Nag Ashwin have voiced their concerns regarding the Telangana government’s decision to auction 400 acres of land belonging to Hyderabad Central University (HCU). The controversy centers on reports that the government intends to sell these lands, sparking reactions from various quarters.
Nag Ashwin recently shared a news article about the land sale on his Instagram story, commenting, “Our fate… nothing can be done.” Similarly, Tarun Bhaskar expressed his discontent by sharing the same news on his Instagram story, highlighting his concerns over the proposed auction.
These social media posts have garnered attention online, with netizens urging activists, intellectuals, and celebrities to come forward to protect the environment. Some have reminisced about Hyderabad’s past moniker as the “City of Parks,” suggesting the formation of a Joint Action Committee (JAC) to safeguard the city’s green spaces.
In a recent press meet, Nag Ashwin addressed his Instagram post, stating that the land being auctioned is a green area. He noted that many IT parks in the vicinity remain partially vacant and suggested that focusing on Tier-2 cities might be a better approach for development. He emphasized the importance of preserving the 400 acres without cutting down trees.
Meanwhile, HCU students have been protesting against the proposed sale, demanding that the 400 acres of university land not be sold.
