DK Aruna hails PM Modi’s caste census decision, slams Congress for political drama

HYDERABAD: Mahbubnagar MP and BJP leader DK Aruna has described Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to conduct a caste census along with the general population count as a historic step that reflects the aspirations of the Indian people.

Addressing a press conference at the local BJP district office on Saturday, Aruna took aim at the Congress party, claiming its approach to caste enumeration was riddled with errors and lacked integrity. She alleged that nearly half the population did not participate in the Congress-led caste survey, and noted that even many BC groups had opposed it—highlighting what she said was widespread scepticism.

She criticised the Congress for using the issue as a political tool during elections, saying, “They brought caste census to the fore only to gain votes and seats. Their intentions are not sincere.” Aruna dismissed claims that the BJP had decided on the caste census because of Congress pressure, calling it a “blatant lie.”

Taking her criticism further, Aruna alleged that Congress’s push for religious-based reservations was part of a calculated strategy to secure the Muslim vote. “This caste census drama is being staged purely for vote-bank politics,” she said. She also questioned why the Congress, despite being in power for over 60 years, failed to initiate either a caste or population census during its tenure.

Turning to unfulfilled promises, Aruna accused the Congress of failing to implement key welfare schemes after coming to power in Telangana. “There’s no sign of Rythu Bandhu, no complete loan waiver, and eligible beneficiaries have not received Indiramma houses,” she said.

She also questioned the distribution of housing quotas under the public representative category, demanding to know why MPs were excluded from quota allocations despite each MLA being assigned 3,500 houses. “How many houses are being allotted in the seven Assembly segments under the MP quota?” she asked, warning that injustice to eligible beneficiaries would not be tolerated.

District BJP president P. Srinivas Reddy, state leader Padmaja Reddy, Padakula Bal Raj and others were present at the press meet.
