Hyderabad: Hyderabad paediatrician Dr Shivarajani Santhosh was honoured on Sunday by the Med Influencers group for leading a long fight against companies that misled the public by branding sugary drinks as ORS.
For eight years, Dr Shivarajani fought companies that used the word “ORS” to sell sweetened drinks. Her consistent campaign pushed the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to act. The authority has now banned all commercial brands from using “ORS” in their product names.
Dr Shivarajani Santhosh ORS fight hailed as a health milestone
The Med Influencers team called the FSSAI order a major win for public health and scientific honesty. They discussed ways to stop fake ORS products and improve public awareness about real oral rehydration solutions.
They said only WHO-approved ORS helps prevent dehydration. The team also pledged to continue promoting evidence-based medicine and ethical healthcare.
Doctors at the event described Dr Shivarajani’s work as an example of strong public advocacy, scientific truth, and responsible medical practice.
