HYDERABAD: In recognition of his unwavering dedication to palliative care, Dr. Subrahmanyam was honored with Rotary International’s prestigious ‘Service Above Self’ Award. The accolade was presented by Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma during a ceremony held on Sunday. This esteemed award is bestowed upon only 150 individuals globally among Rotarians, highlighting Dr. Subrahmanyam’s exceptional commitment. An anesthesiologist affiliated with the Rainbow Group of Hospitals, Dr. Subrahmanyam played a pivotal role in establishing Sparsh Hospice, a dedicated palliative care center in Hyderabad. Since its inception in 2011, Sparsh Hospice has provided free services—including food, medication, accommodation, and medical care—to over 13,000 patients, currently offering palliative care to approximately 6,000 patients daily. The Rotary Club of Banjara Hills lauded Dr. Subrahmanyam’s dedication, stating that his selection for the award exemplifies the true spirit of Rotary.
